A dream...gardening

I've dreamt of having my own veggie garden and fruit trees/bushes for forever. I have unsuccessfully had a lime tree, jalapeno plant, basil, bell pepper plant and cilantro and have some how managed to kill every. last. one. I've had rosemary for a while now and it's still there, but hasn't grown much and a peppermint plant that supposedly is unkillable, even if you want it to die. My hubby laughs at me every time I talk about my desire to have a great garden in our own backyard. Possibly because he doesn't want to spend money for me to kill plants:) I think next year might be my year!

Are there any gardeners out there that can share some helpful tips?! What is easily grown in our hot Texas climate?

Pinterest does a great job of making me realize that my thumb is no shade of green. I think a big part is that I never took the time to figure out the pH in soil, feeding them, etc. I just used some good ole miracle grow and water. That's all I think it should take! Maybe if I get my garden next year, I'll try actually researching different plants and what it takes to make them grow and possibly start composting to help the garden out. Have to get the hubs on board for that one. He's not so sure about that!

I have my eye on this book, which can turn in to a lovely coffee table book, should it fail me.

I would love a blueberry plant!

I'd love some boxes like this instead of beds to help keep my dogs out. Plus, they look cute! That's part of why you garden right?? To make the food you eat look cute! ;)

Spring has Sprung...

Our back yard has a tiny touch of Spring. We visited a new little HUGE nursery by our house that we just fell in love with. So many trees, plants and flowers to choose from and at good prices. A local family built it and it's only been open for one week!



We went to "just look" and came home with a little Mexican Lime Tree. One step closer to getting my own garden that I've wanted. Apparently, lime trees are easy to grow in containers {doing better in a pot than in the ground) we will just have to drag it to the garage in the freezing temps.

His leaves are such a yummy green with pretty little white flowers. We've named him Lupe. Of course, hubs likes anything from his native roots. The lemon trees at the nursery already had fruit on them. Unfortunately, they had sold the two limes that were fruiting.

I can't wait for the day I can pick our fresh limes and enjoy them in a coke {hubby in a beer} and in cooking!!

{ps. don't mind the tiles, we are in the process (still) of adding on to our patio, it's not finished yet and the tiles are just laying in their spots. Still need to level out the ground}
