We are reading Sacred Marriage with our Cell Group {small group} and I know I've said it before, but if you haven't read it and are married or will be, pick up a copy! We were talking about how we deal with differences last night. How you handle periods of anger or frustration with your spouse. Everyone is different and you can learn to respect each other's differences. When the hubs is angry or frustrated, he deals with it differently than I do. He gets quiet and needs some space to breathe and think. He is not one that wants jump into a long discussion right away, like how I used to want to resolve things. He needs time to process. I've learned that in order for a conversation to be productive, I need to allow him that time. Funny thing is, I've become that way too. It works best for us. We both can communicate about a situation better when we've had a few minutes, hours or a day to mull it over and even pray about it. At times we do discuss things right away, but most of the time, we need a little breather.
Figuring out the best way to communicate with your spouse is imperative to your marriage. I'm no expert and we have our flaws, but we strive to have a marriage that reflects Him. And that means we commit to working on it, with each other, daily.
A good marriage isn't something you find, it's something you work for. It takes struggle. You must crucify your selfishness. You must at times confront, and at other times confess. The practice of forgiveness is essential.- Gary Thomas-Sacred Marriage
I'm thankful for a God that gives us grace, forgiveness and loves us through every situation-good or bad. I want to {and try to} love my husband that way!
Just some of my thoughts on marriage today:)
